In some areas you can still get insurance through some government program. In California there is the California Tow-headed Plan.
Check with the Department of Insurance in your state.

Can A Lender Keep The Rest Of The Insurance Claim Money After The Repairs Are Made?

We have a sinkhole and the lender wants us to do one of two things:
A: make application all the money to our mortgage loan and dont't fix the house
B: fix the house and refer the rest of the money to the loan
Can they make us apply that to the loan? We at bottom wanted to fix the house and have the rest just to pad our pockets being that we are the ones who hired a legal practitioner to get the insurance company to pay, not them. Please I need some insight, maybe someone who has been through something like this.
The fixed answer is in your Mortgage. I do believe they are correct in saying that those are your choices. Most touchstone mortgages used nationwide say exactly that.

i had same emotionally upset with a cor once, and it did not end well for me.
i have since come to the conclusion my scenario was most likely illegal, on the sellers part. i would with an attorney, and be sure first, before you sign anything, or cash the check. AND FAST TOO

Fix the ill fame, and keep the money. But know this.....you will play hell getting insurance from here on out. You will go on a index that shows you've had sink hold damage to your house.

I speculation their names on the check to. Try to get them to endorse it then get the sink hole fixed and state them there was no money left over to apply to the mortgage. Anyway, if your current on your payments, it's deep down none of their business what you do with the balance left over.

The insurance comp. came out in June and denied a sinkhole declare on my home. We got a lawyer and since then have found out that we have sinkhole activity even a void under our home. Our insurance establishment wouldn't renew our policy and the bank wants to force insurance for 7,000.00 a year. Any perceptiveness would be helpful

Since the on hole claim was reported they are now aware of an increased hazard that your on is subject to. As such, they have decided that your home was too big a risk to insure and have chosen to non-refurnish.
You can look to find insurance with other companies but due to the sink hole activity - you may have a hard patch finding any insurance company that is willing to accept the risk. If you do find one willing to do it --- it's successful to be expensive.

yep. they now positive of a HUGE risk. i hate to tell you but more than likely, your policy excludes this anyway. you miss to find another carrier and its going to be hard with the problem at hand. sorry

I am not an insurance agent. I am an unfortunate homeowner who declined sinkhole coverage last year and now finds myself closely on the edge of financial disaster.
My husband and I purchased a villa four years ago hoping to catch here in Florida once our kids finished school up North. It is one of six units in a lone building. We share walls and yards with our neighbors and our driveways are side by side.
In initially September I received a phone call in Chicago with information that my neighbor's driveway and front yard had been exhausted to a huge sinkhole. I carried sinkhole insurance for three years, but after listening to some bad warning (not from my insurance agent), I dropped my sinkhole coverage. I was told my homeowners scheme covered catastrophic ground collapse and in the event of a sinkhole, I would be covered.
Not dedicated. There are very specific criteria that must be met to be covered under the catastrophic ground crumple provision. I strongly encourage everyone homeowner to review their system. Our Citizens policy stated we needed to meet all four criteria and we did not congregate even one under its rules.
