Insurance on Lotus Elise for 18 or 19 year old?
Q: I shortage to get a new Lotus Elise when I am 18 or 19, but it really depends how much the insurance will be. I reside on Dream of Island, NY but when I get the car will be going to school in either Albany, NY or Tallahasse, FL. Some help? Thanks.
I didn't positive about the repair costs. I will probably just get a SLK 350 or Range Vagrant Sport. Thanks for the help.
A: Lets see....immature driver + fast, demanding sports car with unbeLIEVable repair costs....
I concur with the daddy criticism. Must be nice to have a dad who would even consider letting this happen.
Minor fender-benders in an Elise can set someone back almost 20 grand to fix. The bodywork is made of very large, hand-installed fiberglass panels. There are far fewer pieces than most cars, so if you destruction one panel, you're replacing what would be 2 or 3 panels on most cars. And they're low-volume parts, too, so they're dear. And they're difficult to align, so installation is expensive, and is best handled by a Lotus artist. Some paint colors are such that if they get scratched, the ENTIRE PANEL (which could be half the car) has to be re-painted for it to ever look correct again. Any damage you do to this car will be very, very expensive to fix.
This will all be reflected in the cost of insurance.
Dude, get a Miata or MR2 or something. Do NOT get something like an Elise as your first sports car. Scrimp it for when you're sure you've made most of your stupid mistakes, and you aren't parking on a college campus full of assholes who will indemnity your car.
Maybe convince daddy to buy you a supercharged Exige as a college graduation contribution?
Even if you CAN afford it, it will be a pain in the ass.
The first response is right - the only place to get an answer you can trustworthiness is an insurance agent who has your driving record to work with. But a car with that kind of performance in the in collusion of a young inexperienced driver means either monthly insurance payments that look more like they connected with to a mortgage, or no insurance at all. My bet is on the latter.
