Purdue professor in trouble for blog

A Purdue professor has ignited disputation on the West Lafayette campus after writing a blog post tying homosexuality to the several remunerative troubles facing the country. Though many students are outraged by the blog, it has also spurred a conference about free speech.

Bert Chapman, a professor of library technique at Purdue, made the comments in his personal blog called the "Hidebound Librarian". On October 27th he posted "An Economic Case Against Homosexuality," in which he blames homosexuals for the elaborate cost of the AIDS epidemic, healthcare and some insurance plans.

"When you have credibility like that I condign think you have to get all the facts straight," said Purdue freshman John Biel.

As a associate of the gay community on campus, Biel says professor Chapman's words still detriment.

"When something like this comes out, it's kind of like a slap in the pan and a step back," Biel said.
