How Many Years Do You Need To Declare A Drink Drive (DR10) Conviction To Insurance Companies? |
Oct 06, 2009 by Irene | Posted in Insurance & Registration
They ask about erstwhile 5 years but the endorsment stays on the licence for 11 years.
The DR10 will debris valid on your licence (when you get it back) for 10 years.
If you are asked about any driving convictions, it will explain a certain length of time, if the conviction is 'out of that time' then you need not affirm it.
If they ask if you have any criminal convictions then you must declare it.
If you are required to show your licence you are stuffed. I be sure my insurance company do checks with the DVLA to see if you hold a driving licence, I don't remember how many other companies do this.

As a motoring position if that is what they ask for then 5 years. As this is a criminal conviction they usually ask if you ever had one of them so if they do you have to admit it.
Some ask what is still on the licence and so you have to bid them
Some will ask for a copy of your drivers licence when you start a first policy with them.
Answer whatever you are asked fully and truthfully and you cannot go wrong. There is no rule anywhere that says you have to tell insurance companies anything unless they specifically ask you other than things that any sound individual would consider relevant to whether they would cover you or adjust the rate that you would pay them for bedclothes.
Insurance companies operate differently to one another. Some might consider your DR as a serious matter and others will forget it if it was over 5 years ago.

You will emergency to claim it for as long as it shows up on your driving record. You can contact your asseverate license bureau and check every year.

If You Have A DR10, After 5 Years, You Don't Disclose It. How Can You Insure Your Own Car, But Can't Hire One |
Dec 20, 2006 by Best Weeble Ever! | Posted in Insurance & Registration
You don't have to grass on your insurance company about DR10 after 5 years - Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. So why is it that you can insure your own car without any problems, but you are unfit to hire a car because of the DR10? Are hire car companies above the law?
You are discredit in your assumption that you do not have to disclose it to your insurance !
Every insurer ask`s the question`s " Have you any motoring view`s in the last 5 years "
followed by "Have you EVER been convicted of drink driving "
The fait accompli you have obviously not told your insurer`s of this makes your insurance void !
The rehabilitation of wrongdoer`s act does not even come into it !
And who in the right mind would want to hire a car to a myself with a DR10 anyway the reason a DR10 stop`s on your licence for so long is to punish you for the offence covet after it has happened and to remind you of not to be so stupid as to drink drive again !!!!!!!!

Unconventional insurers require different information. My partner had a DR10 and after 5 years DID NOT have to announcement it when applying for insurance. For example, Tesco ask 'any motoring convictions in last 5 years'. Contrarily to what someone else said, they do not all ask if you have EVER been convicted for drink driving.
Hire companies may also have out of the ordinary rules with regards to this. Shop around and see how you get on. For example some hire companies will not charter rent out to under 25's, some do. It depends on their own insurers. My partner is now on the company car insurance which uses lease companies.
To all the narrow minded people saying 'why would anyone want to insure someome with a DR10?' please come up. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance. Alcoholism is an illness and although the consequences can be devestating through eye-opener driving, they can also in people with mental health problems (where they go out and kill people through their complaint). Should we lock them up forever just in case? No.
My partner had to go through Sheol to get his driving licence back after his DR10 and he is now totally safe and wouldn't dream of getting behind the where if he had been drinking. I am all for giving people a second chance because people can shift.
Good luck.

Hey, UK Lawyer! Try learing to spell!
OK, alcoholism may be a disease but the choice to drink enterprise is not. An epileptic sould not drive when they feel a seizure coming on and a exhilarated should not drive when drunk.
Personally, it should be a one-strike issue. Drink-impel once, walk for life. The reduction in the carnage on our roads would be stunning. (And I'm not some tee-amount wonk. I just don't drink and drive -- taxi, bus, trek, designated driver, whatever it takes.)

It's Non-Standard real just a matter of risk and return.
A car rental company is giving you a £10K value car for a rate from as low as £15-£20 per day. This price does not vary based on previous convictions, they either gash to you at that price or refuse to rent. They do not alter the price.
An insurance company is superior to charge you a much higher premium for your insurance based on your previous conviction record. The impact of points or a previous ban can be very high.
If you want to hire a car try the smaller village owner-operated companies. They might be willing to rent to you at a higher cost or stand the risk based on there assessment of you.
