If A Truck Driver Hits A Deer, Can His Boss Make Him Pay Half The Insurance Deductible Or Fire Him?
Jun 20, 2008 by chidordon | Posted in Insurance
The deer ran into the side of my truck. It's the 3rd be that as it may I hit a deer this year. My job wants me to pay 1/2 the deductable. I can't imagine that's above-board. Any advice?
It depends. When you started, did you signboard a contract saying you would? When I was going to work for a company they handed me a group of papers to sign. I came across one that said if I got into an accident that I would be responsible for the $1,000 deductible. I walked honestly back out the door.... Otherwise, no, they can't make you pay. Even in court that crap wouldn't stomach up. Judge would say something like an act of GOD and that's what insurance is for. My insurance company waives the deductible if I hit an animal so it's their determination not to have it covered.... But like another answerer stated about the "at will"... Which means "you can be fired with or without heed for any reason or no reason at all".... Generally you can even fight that or at least get unemployment out of them if they do fire you.
Legally, they cannot present you pay 1/2 their deductible, but chances are you are in an 'at will' State, so they can fire you..

NO,NO, you should not pay a penny. You truck was hit while you worked for you entourage. It has car insurance to cover all possible causes of accident, unless you employor did not buy the crown coverage.

Legally, you don't have to. But if you don't, at the end of the day, they'll likely try to find a way to fire you.
I'd just flat out start looking for another job.

Can A Private Person Buy A Fire Truck?
Aug 28, 2009 by chilisauce2727 | Posted in Insurance & Registration
Want to buy a fire truck for special use. What kind of insurance do I need and what driver's license do I need?
Yes you can buy your own fire truck. Suspension out the Society for the Preservation and Appreciation of Antique Motor Fire Apparatus in America website.
http://www.spaamfaa.org/
They have all character of information on buying owning and maintaining fire trucks. Here is a picture of mine that I bought several years ago.
These things can be a lot of fun. As old vehicles go, you can get them in really good shape. With the economy like it is there are some honest bargains around if you take the time to look for them. My opinion is that some of the volunteer departments have some righteous buys since the trucks for the most part, don't get the same amount of runs as a paid company and aren't as tattered out. In some place in the South it's not unusual to see active duty trucks 20 years and older still in accommodation.
You can drive a truck under 26,001 lbs on a regular driver's license. This would exclude a tanker. Most trucks from the 60's and earlier flop start into this category.
If you tag your fire truck as antique, you can get antique vehicle insurance, there are some restrictions like commercial and daily driver use but you should be talented to get it for about $100-$500 a year.
Most states issue antique tag to vehicle 25 years and older, in NC it's 35. You also get a attribute tax break doing this in most states.
If you need a fire truck for commercial use, like construction, agriculture etc. Then consider something built on a commerical chassis like a Ford or GMC with a fire heart on it. It's amazing how fast these trucks loose their value after a few years. Many well financed FDs many a time update trucks after only a few years and sometimes 8-10 year old trucks can be bought for a fraction of their novel price while still having years of like left in them.
I keep the lights and temptress hooked up on mine and this should not be a problem in most places as long as they are not used on public highways.
You neediness a CDL to drive it. Insurance would need to meet State standards.

You can buy a fire truck. You condign can't drive it on public streets with the lights and sirens going.

Inevitable people buy old trucks all the time, if you want a new one they cost about $300k so if you have that congenial of money to blow go for it. The larger trucks you will need a cdl and the insurance will run around $20k per year depending on your report.

I had a also pen-friend who owned an old '30's vintage fire truck. He drove it around once in a while, but mostly he rented it to some Hollywood studio for 2500.
They would pick it up with a tow rig, unsoiled and use it for a week or so, then haul it back and give him a check.
FREE MONEY, wow.

We Have An Insurance Claim Pending On Our Vehicle. Truck Now Stolen Will Insurance Cover It?
Jul 20, 2009 by KERN S | Posted in Insurance & Registration
Hello, on parade 21 our commercial truck with full coverage insurance caught on fire. The insurance company has dragged there feet with it and it is when all is said fixed. During the pending claim we stopped paying the $600 per month for insurance while the truck was off the way. Now as of yesterday the truck was stolen.. Our original claim has not been paid out yet. Will the truck still be bound by insurance for this new pilferage considering the claim has not been finished
As at the end of the day as you stopped payments on the insurance , your truck was no longer covered !
There may be a legal "ease" period of 30 days after you stopped payments , although that`s purely a rowdyish guess on my part .
I`d say the insurance company , much as I think they`re all crooks , is responsible only for the fire damage , and will trash to cover the theft ...........
If the theft occurred more than 30 days after you stopped payments , then you`re for all not covered .

No, it's not fated for a second loss while the truck was not insured.
You don't get "free insurance" while a previous claim is pending. If you dropped the insurance off the truck, it's not covered for the theft.
mbrcatz | Jul 20, 2009
Unless your insurance associates notified you they were dropping you, any claims should still be honored.
If you stopped paying, no worries. I had a berth where I missed my own payment for 2 months, my insurance didn't drop me but sent me warnings. After I missed the 2nd monthly payment, they advised me that I would be dropped unless I made payment within 30 days.
They have to call you, and also hint you in writing prior to dropping you. And any claims prior to your being dropped would still be honored.
