Can My Private University Force Me To Buy Its Student Health Insurance?

I am currently covered by a glory-enhanced version of Medicare; my family is extremely low-income and this health coverage is far of a higher order to that offered by the private graduate school I will be attending this fall. However, the instil is not accepting my waiver form saying that government insurance does not chance on the school's waiver qualifications (only employer insurance programs do). Can they do this to me and persuade me pay thousands of dollars I don't have for redundant school health insurance I don't need? Anyone knowledgeable enough to grasp whether this is something I can fight legally? The school and my insurance are in NJ.

A secluded school can require you to do just about anything as a condition of admittance -- because they are a non-gregarious institution, not a govt agency. It's all a matter of contract -- you can either do what they be deficient in, or not accept admission. Your choice.

Racial prejudice is about the only thing prohibited -- and that's only under the 13th Alteration compensate, which affects private groups -- the 14th only applies to govt deed.

You don't fundamental to sign up with their Insurance. You have a choice. Right now, your already covered. It's none of their damn business if your insured or not. When I went to college I didn't even have Insurance.

Yes. But you should cross with them, since you have coverage of your own.

No, you can't contradict it legally. They have the right to set down whatever conditions they want. If you write them an appeal correspondence literature laying out the details of your plan and proving that they are superior to the school's contemplate, they may consider it, but it's at their discretion. You have no legal recourse.

I'm a paralegal and I don't industry in NJ so this amounts to best of my knowledge and not sure known fact. That said. You're fighting a schools admissions scheme. They haven't broken a law that I know of and they are not forcing you to buy anything because you can always go to another school. You could sue them and it will cost you more then the insurance and you might not win. Your doubtlessly not going to get a lawyer to help without money up front on this because you wouldn't be suing for a whopping settlement but rather for them to admit you which would mean the lawyer couldn't take his fee out of the settlement. Some lawyers would keep a case such as this even if you did have the money for their fee. I don't agree with what the school is doing but if it is a private private school that doesn't rely on state funding then there isn't allot of oversight on their admissions policies. I am depressing but while there may be things you can do I doubt whether they will be overly effective. If the school won't see your point of look at on this then perhaps you should consider another school.

Can I Omit Information On A Health Insurance Form?

I have been having a unfriendly time getting health insurance in Canada because I have been a carrier of Hep C for 21 years. Even though I have no symptoms and have liver role tests every year that are consistently normal, the companies won't touch me! I am about to have our first pet and would really like coverage for prescription drugs, dental and foresightedness - that's all I need. If I don't put down that I have Hep C, what are the repercussions if I get caught? Will they know anyway? And if anyone knows a company that WILL include me, with or without a waiver for Hep C related conditions, I will be forever grateful. Thanks all.

They check tick off your records they would find out anyway. Check with an agent and ask about a possible exclusion for the Hep C and any conditions resulting from it?

there's a medical database - they'll find out anyway. Don't lie.

I am contrite, but under no reasons is it legal to exclude any relevant information on a health insurance form. To do so would constitute swindle. You would most likely be caught, and when you are, your insurance would deny you coverage AND file suit against you (resulting in a heft fine-grained and likely prison time).

This is a good degree worse than not having insurance to initiate with, I would think. Seek other options if you can.

Note: Despite the legality of it, the ethics of the predicament might be a good degree different. But that belongs in another thread.

lieing is bad, there could be some serious fines, peradventure even jail time tell the truth

Exception amounts to concealment and it might be a ground for the disapproval of your claim for insurance benefits. Thus, even if you can get an insurance catch but could not claim, you should not omit so that you not pay premiums.

Health Insurance Problem?

We had a very textile health insurance for our daughter who is a freshman. However, the university still charged us about $800 for three semesters. Since this was electrons bill payment, we didn't review that. However, in the application, my daughter filled the information on insurance. The school said that it was not completed. But the instruct never told us that the application for waiver of health insurance was not completed, and never gave my daughter a letter to show that she was covered by opinion's insurance. Can we get the money back?

You're prevalent to have to check the university's policy/procedure on student health insurance.

Many universities be lacking that a student show proof of having another form of health insurance, or they are automatically placed on the devotee policy. If the university had a deadline to show proof and your daughter didn't agree with the deadline, then you may be stuck for the semester.

If you have documentation that your daughter provided the poop by the deadline, that might be helpful. Check the university's website - generally, they have info about the swotter health insurance policy.

(For example, at Berkeley, they had a deadline of July 15th. There was a late fee for waivers submitted after July 15th, but they won't reconcile oneself to any waivers at all after September 15th. http://www.uhs.berkeley.edu/Students/ins urance/waiverselect.shtml )

i dont recognize... u must check all the details first so u can sure of what ur paying for

this is very unfair but is dependent on the rules and regulations for your nation, insurance company and school. You need to start with each entity and find their rules. I can be effective you getting money back in NY is very difficult as it is possible to have primary and secondary coverage.
