SGLI is needed, but the rules will be different for you.
Equitable keep it. It costs pennies a day to have and if anything happens to you it will assist your family.
I left the assignment in 91 and my SGLI was $50,000 at that time. I continue to pay the $11.00 per month come-on. I figure it's just a little something to help my family out with should I die. BTW, The $11 bucks a month? I piss at least that much away on any orthodox Sunday watching football.
You will call for to fill out the SGLV 8286 (May 2009) which you can find at the link below.
To deny it, you would write on the top under the Amount of Insurance tailback "I do not want insurance at this time." Also, you do not need to have a commander's or 1SG's signature to reduction it. However, I would urge you to keep it anyway. Even in Cadet Land, things can happen and you would be kicking yourself if you were to die and leavve your kindred with nothing. To get the full $400,000, it is only $27.00/month which isn't that bad at all. That is less than $1 per day for a lot of coverage. Also, do not worry about innards it out now. Once you officially contract with ROTC, they will have you will out another SGLV 8286 and you can write this in as you fancy.
SGLI coverage is instinctual but you can reduce it or decline it. You will have to go to your personnel office. But consider carefully what you are doing. You won't get a improve deal. Isn't there anyone in your life? Do you want your parents or another other family member to have anything? Maybe you don't necessary $400,000 but consider how much you *do* need. For $3.50 per month you could get $50,000. That might pay off Mom's refuge. What a nice thing to do.
If so, how do you do it? who do you call? and If you are a veteran with only 10`% is there a way they can take an quota from your monthly payments in order to pay for the life insurance. If you have information please send me phone few or a website. If you paid SGLI for 22 years upon retirement from the Reserves or Patriotic Guard, what happens to i? also can the retiree still be covered for 200,000 after retirement?.

Examine out the link below...basically it is switched from SGLI to VGLI.
You can keep the SGLI but the at all events is terrible. It was offered to me when I retired and I turned it down. I got twice as much insurance from the NCOA for about 1/3 the cost.
They will propose it to you and also several reduced options also. All of that is done before the retirement.
