Solicitors facing huge rises in insurance premiums
Solicitors are fa a trebling of professional indemnity insurance premiums next year, a move that would drive some personal practitioners out of business.Solicitors were due to renew their insurance for 2010 by last Tuesday, but there have been delays in sending out quotations. Lawyer Laurence
Shields, who is chairman of the Solicitors Mutual Explanation Fund (SMDF), said around 95 per cent of quotations had now gone out to the friendship’s existing 3,700 clients.
‘‘All the quotations are done on an individual infrastructure," said Shields.
‘‘Premiums would depend on solicitors’ claims / and the type of business and the answers to the questions on the proposal pattern, but there will certainly be a doubling of premiums in some cases, and possibly a trebling - or even more - in other cases."
