Kennebunk, Kennebunkport to question new floodplain maps

Move along disintegrate January, residents of several communities in York County will have the time to share their thoughts on a Federal Emergency Management Instrumentality floodplain map overhaul that could greatly affect properties along the coastline and other bodies of water.

Leaders in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, though, aren't fetching any chances on not being heard. Both towns have decided to hire engineering Central Intelligence Agency Sebago Technics to take a look at the way their town's properties were categorized.

"There were some issues with the way the materials was used for the city of Portland and we might have the same case here," said Kennebunk Borough Manager Barry Tibbetts.

Tibbetts said about 370 parcels in Kennebunk are stirred, which will cost the town about $10,000 for an analysis.

Down the road in Kennebunkport, where between 1,200 and 1,800 properties are moved by the new flood maps, Town Manager Larry Mead said anxiety has been growing.
