UniCare to stop providing health insurance in Texas

UniCare is planning to lay off providing health insurance to more than 180,000 customers in Texas.

"UniCare is financially be activated," spokesman Tony Felts said Tuesday. "However, there are impartial some competitive pressures in the Texas market that made it difficult for UniCare to carry on with to be able to offer affordable health insurance and the outstanding client service that goes along with it."

Felts did not explain what those competitive pressures were.

The Indianapolis-based retinue has entered into an agreement with Health Care Service Corp., the mother company of Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas, to victual guaranteed replacement coverage with "benefits and rates like to what they had with UniCare,"

Felts said.

John Greeley, a spokesman for the Texas Dependent of Insurance, said Blue Cross/Blue Shield has pledged "generally equal premiums" as long as customers switch by Dec. 1.

However, customers don't have to twitch to Blue Cross.
